Heartstrings : Korean Drama Review

Heartstrings poster

Synopsis:

Lee Shin is a university student majoring in modern music. He is also the vocalist and guitarist of the band “The Stupid.” Shin is known for his good looks and strong passion for music, but in reality he is cold, lacks interest in anything unrelated to music and has neither dreams nor plans for the future. He initially likes Jung Yoon Soo, a dance professor at university, but this all changes when he meets Lee Kyu Won. Lee Kyu Won is a bright and outgoing student who was born into a prestigious family and is majoring in traditional Korean instruments, especially the gayageum. Kyu Won’s grandfather, Lee Dong Gun, is one of the top 3 traditional musicians of his age and his biggest wish is to see his granddaughter become a traditional music prodigy. Trying to live up to her grandfather’s expectations, Kyu Won immerses herself in training and becomes a university student who knows nothing outside of her studies. As her friends are fans of “The Stupid”, she was forced to go to the band’s concert with them. There she saw Lee Shin performing live, and is immediately captivated by him.

My Personal Review:

My #1 favorite school life and Music genre Korean drama is no other than “Heartstrings” aka Festival/You’ve fallen for me. I’ve seen it on mysoju.com and it was a love at first sight. I really have a sudden interest watching it because of its poster (Spring inspired season). Usually, I prefer this kind of genre for its lovely, relaxing and heartwarming. I can’t watch it right away because a heartstrings DVD is what I need. Sometimes, mysoju.com offers a super buffering momentum on your video streaming. I’ll hate it. x.x But then on my FB news Feed, I saw a slide show of yeo joon (Kang Min Hyuk) for Heartstrings. oh..what a cute guy? I got curious and asked Ate Cris [ Choir mate in College 🙂 ] if this guy is in heartstrings ..blah..blah..The rest was history. Never mind the buffering, I  MUST watch it! ♥ (Now na! with my couz trix)

Technically, the setting for the drama is warm, gentle, nature-friendly and Spring season all over. As if you will want to have a get away for a vacation to escape a busy life. It also reminds me of Honey and Clover because of the University life setting plus ART University.  For the soundtracks (OMG!), I’m  really really really so in love with it.  Of course this is a music genre drama, expect the Best Music ! Most of the songs are by CNBLUE (I will forget you, You’ve fallen for Me, Star ♥ and Because I miss you) and our very own Gominam, the lovely PArk Shin Hye. 🙂 it soooo synced right away in my itouch. Before watching drama, I’ve listened to the soundtracks first. :p Did I mention the traditional korean and applied music is so cool! sugoii! ^^v

The most criticized part of HS is its storyline. Crisgine, my cousin, told me that it got low ratings in Korea. Those ratings don’t affect me at all rather made more curious on watching it. Despite of its low rating from its own country,  it’s one of the top spot on the most favorite  Asian drama of 2011. (survey on Asia)

As I go in the story, it revolves on a love square of Lee Shin, lead vocals of the stupid  ( Jung Yong Hwa), Kyu won ,traditional music student ( Park Shin Hye) , Suk hyun, Broadway Director  (Song Chang Ui) and Jung yoon soo, Dance Professor (So Yi Hyun)…. [Past Relationship Bitterness turned into love is lovelier the 2nd time around, Enemies to Lovers, Unrequited Love, Love at First Sight] All complications are given at the first 5 episodes of the drama. the only problem is the emphasis on some characters is not enough. It lacks the element of spice and some elaborations on the story sequence. They said it’s slow paced  (well, yeah!) for focusing too much in the anniversary performance but I think that’s the story all about. [pero swear .. I love whoever is the music director for this drama is 🙂 bawi na rin.. ] It lacks intensity but still i love its simplicity.♥

On acting-wise, They are all great. thumbs up! 🙂 I suggest that Lee Hyun jin aka Mr. Escaping Syndrome should be given more POV scenes or even joined the love complications for some twist. Want a good looking actors/actresses? 100% yes in heart strings.♥ hahaha

Nevertheless, I’ll always love HEARTSTRINGS so I recommend it for those who wanted to fall in love all over again. ♥

Love always brings music in our life. I love how it sway and swing in different ways for us to learn, love and value life ~”
