The Age of Adaline (2015) : Movie Review

Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) has miraculously remained a youthful 29 years of age for nearly eight decades, never allowing herself to get close to anyone lest they discover her secret. However, a chance encounter with a charismatic philanthropist named Ellis Jones (Michael Huisman) reawakens Adaline’s long-suppressed passion for life and romance. When a weekend with Ellis’ parents threatens to expose the truth, Adaline makes a decision that changes her life forever.

Age of Adaline (2015) is a Romance, Drama and Science Fiction film. This movie will question the mind of the people of what if this kind of case will happen today. A happening that is out of the norm can be considered as a curse and will not be accepted in the society. As for me, Staying young would be better but considering the consequences for that exchange, I’d rather live a youthful attitude to stay young at heart than get struck by a lightning and be physically young forever.  You can learn the value of time and life in this film.

The story focuses on the peculiar/weird condition of Adaline and how she struggled to live a normal life.  Adaline found love in the modern time that will reveal her true condition. She also accidentally found the solution with her case in the end.

–   is the woman who remained 29 years old due to the struck of a lightning on a car accident.

– the man who pursued a love interest on Adaline without knowing her secret. They eventually become a couple

– He’s the father of Ellis that was very surprised to see Adaline in the person of Jenny. (But of course they are the same person)

–  the daughter of Adaline Bowman and her secret keeper.

I like the slow motion part every time Adaline got into accident. It’s dramatic. I also think that it was hard to shoot and edit that scene.

 Comments and Suggestion

The movie is scientific, chronological and astonishing. It focuses on the timeless existence of Adaline. People wonder about the “What If’s” of life that can be possible in movies and impossible in real life. There are stories of immortality already but on a fictional approach like “The Cullen Family” in the twilight series. In Age of Adaline, the possibility of being immortal was shown in a more realistic and scientific way. You might think that the possibility that it can happen to anyone in the present time. You can be just struck by a lightning and be immortal.

On the other hand, the movie also has shown the disadvantages of being 29 years old forever. Many people wishes to find the so called “fountain of youth”. If you are one of them, prepare to live an abnormal life. Remember how Adaline transfer places and change names every 5 years just to hide her real identity and weird case. She was also being chased by officials and researchers because of the purpose of experiment. You don’t want to be a living specimen right? She can see her daughter having wrinkles and white hair while she just stays the same. It’s kinda scary for me.  I mean, it’s very complicated to be Adaline. She can’t live a Normal Life.

Acting wise it’s outstanding. I love Blake Lively since Gossip Girl. She’s timeless. I can’t imagine any another actress that will be Adaline than her. Another thing, I got confuse with Harrison Ford. I thought it was the name of the character but it’s the name of the actor. Haha!

Rating: 8 out of 10

  1. I remember when I first read The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and wondering what would it be like to never grow old? Whoa! It’s still a fascinating idea, but yeah, there definitely would be problems. You’d have to keep moving or else become a monk in some wilderness far from people, but then if you’re only 29 you want to be with folks. right? And then if you fall in love you’d have to watch your love grow older and older…and they would see you never growing old…hmmm.
Thank you Lovely for this review. I definitely want to see the movie.

It feels unfair for your friends or even love ones. the effect is not good so it’s a crazy thing to happen for real. I just watched this because I like the actress ,Blake Lively. Also, i find the plot interesting. Yes, please see this film I am sure you’ll love it. ❤
