Synopsis

Dapper Koala Buster Moon presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. An eternal optimist, and a bit of a scoundrel, he loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he takes one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. Five contestants emerge: a mouse, a timid elephant, a pig, a gorilla and a punk-rock porcupine. (source : google.com)

Review:

Sing  (2016) is an animated film about humanoid animals living in a city  with ordinary lives. Buster Moon (koala) is an optimistic music producer who dreams of having a grand thing on his Moon Theatre. Like Buster Moon, let’s be brave to reach for our dreams and inspire others to shine on their own as well. 🙂

Characters:

  • Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon, an optimistic Koala who plans to save his theater from closure by holding a singing competition.
  • Reese Witherspoon as Rosita, a pig who gave up her teenage music dreams to become a devoted wife to Norman, and mother to their 25 piglets.
  • Seth MacFarlane as Mike, a white mouse “with a big Frank Sinatra-esque voice and an arrogant attitude.”
  • Scarlett Johansson as Ash, a teenage porcupine and punk rocker who takes part in an alternative-rock music duo with her boyfriend Lance.
  • John C. Reilly as Eddie, a sheep and Buster’s friend who doubts the future of the theater.
  • Tori Kelly as Meena, a teenage elephant with an exquisite voice and severe stage fright.
  • Taron Egerton as Johnny, a teenage gorilla who wants to sing, though his father wants him to follow his criminal footsteps.
  • Jennifer Saunders as Nana Noodleman, a sheep and Eddie’s grandmother who was a singer in her glory days.

Animation:

The characters are well drawn accordingly to their personalities. The transitions of scenes like the flying of brochures to  characters and so on is cool.  The movements on the performances suits the timing of the music.  Nothing really grand but just appropriate. 🙂

Comments and Suggestions:

S.I.N.G. (movie) made my eyes glued on our flat screen TV for an hour without interruption. It is also the first time I agreed watching a movie from my younger brother’s recommendation. He saw the trailer of SING on YouTube and promoted it to me. I am not expecting a lot with this movie but then after watching I am convinced that it was truly awesome.

Entertaining and Inspiring — the best description for this movie. If you are familiar with a singing contest reality show (The Voice, American Idol…. Then you will see it here in an animated animal kingdom way. The Koala aka Buster Moon is the Music Producer.

Let us say he is like Simon Cowell but a kinder version. Mr. Moon is someone who doesn’t think of giving up. He was inspired by his good memories with his dad that founded the Moon Theatre. His theatre seems to be bankrupt already yet he remains to be optimistic all the time. I think Buster Moon is my favorite character among all. He’s so adorable too! We even have the same quote! 😀

Then, he came up with an idea of having a singing contest open to all.  He talks about REAL TALENT from REAL PEOPLE.  I was more interested after watching that part. I also like the transition where the main characters real life talents were introduced one by one in a fast forward phase while Mr. Moon is riding a bike. Cool!

I believe everyone has a talent.  We are all born for a purpose. We just need to discover and strongly believe in it. Like all the talents here who came from ordinary lives, they did not even know that they can actually do it. It all started when someone like Buster Moon believed in them. The best example is MEENA (the elephant). She has always this supportive family behind her back believes that she can be famous with her singing voice. The only problem is she was scared of singing on stage (in front of people). It was funny that she was supposed to audition for being a talent but she turned out to be the production assistant because she can’t express what she wanted. Sometimes, it takes real courage for us to achieve our dream. Eventually, Buster Moon discovered Meena’s golden voice. She became confident to sing on stage live! ^o^~

I was also moved in the scene where the Moon Theatre literally collapsed. Small mistakes can lead to big disaster. It happened to Buster Moon Secretary. So many zero can be deceiving about the price. It made the contestant hate Buster Moon.  Conflicts can start with that so we need to be careful in every work that we make. Double check if must.

Buster Moon’s optimism /attitude was tested here. Everything breaks apart even his heart because of this destruction of the Moon theatre comes with his dreams. All he has is the silver bucket. He was back to zero. All his talents visit him to comfort and cheer him up. He even tried car washing to earn money. He literally used his body to wash the car.  He is so cute (squishy)and pitiful there! >///< .

I saw True friendship with his bestfriend. He supported him in his downfall by staying by his side and helping him do the car wash a well. I was moved. (T.T) Eventually, everything was resolved in the end. That’s what you need to watch out for!
